0121 Tutorial

【My tool of choice is the photocopier.】
Artist: Pati Hill.
She uses the photocopier to create a large number of images. Specialising in a careful collection
of dreams, objects and moments in the form of ephemeral objects. Strange effects are created between some of the original objects she scans and the copier prints.
Some principles:‘Blurred captures of moving objects’ — ‘Disturbing the relationship of an object to space by emphasising its contours’
By analysing the movement and distortion of the images, I chose these two ‘pears’ to start the process.

Some Thoughts
1. It is not possible to reproduce the artist’s work exactly. From a machine point of view, it would have been different from the ‘click of a button’ photocopiers of that era.
2. When using your hands or other tools to move the pear, be careful not to obscure the item.
3. The scans are all from left to right, noting the relationship between the orientation of the pear and its movement.
4. If the item is far away from the machine, the scan will come out black. If the machine is closed halfway for scanning, the finished base will be grey. Scanning with the machine fully open will result in a black background colour.
Some extended ideas: Time? Moving trajectories? Layers? Moving images? Narrative?
